LINKING TRAINING TO INDUSTRY AT THE SALDANHA BAY IDZ
In 2016, Training Force formed an important partnership with the Saldanha Bay Industrial Development Zone (SBIDZ).
As a result, Training Force’s engineering and construction training centre in Vredenburg, on the West Coast, was able to facilitate a welding skills programme with 20 learners. The programme was initiated by the SBIDZ and was funded by merSETA and the DTI to train foundational welding, fabrication, rigging, electrical, bricklaying, plumbing and carpentry skills to learners residing in the Saldanha Bay Municipality.
In 2017 we received the exciting news that we were awarded a second group of learners whom will be trained on various welding skills programmes. Thus far the learners have succeeded beyond expectations and are now empowered to secure potential job opportunities or gain access to learnerships or apprenticeships.
Currently, 54% of Saldanha’s population is between the ages of 18 – 35. With 30% unemployment and a large deficit of skilled workers, this skills programme initiative aims to uplift and develop the IDZ, positively impacting the community and the area at large.
The SBIDZ zone, which is dedicated to serving the oil and gas industry, will be a permanent fixture of the Saldanha harbour and industrial area. Training Force looks forward to being a part of the training plan in this zone over the next 4-5 years.
Training Force is a nationally accredited training provider that is focused on delivering industry and job-specific skills assessments and training interventions to businesses and their employees across all industry sectors.
